What's the Season Pass system?
Diablo 4 will contain the Season Pass system [1], which rewards players as they advance through a season's content (about 75 hours' worth). It'll compliment the Season Journey feature, but offer different rewards:

How do the Free and Premium Season Pass tiers differ?
Blizzard has broken Diablo 4's Season Pass into two tiers: Free and Premium. These unlock different rewards for players.
Free tier
When players create a fresh character for a new season, we predict they're likely auto-enrolled into the free tier of the Season Pass. Players can expect the following rewards from the free tier as they level up and complete season objectives:
- Cosmetic items
- Gameplay boosts for season characters, like faster experience gain
- Premium Currency, which can be used in the cosmetic item shop
Premium tier
The Premium Pass is optional and costs real money during a current season. Blizzard made clear that Premium offers cosmetic-only rewards, and players cannot pay for power. This tier will offer:
- More unique cosmetic items that are themed to the current season
- (More?) Premium Currency to spend in the cosmetic item shop
The Deluxe and Ultimate editions of the game contain one Premium Pass for a 3 month season.
"Season Pass has both free rewards (cosmetics, gameplay boosts, and premium currency) and paid rewards (only cosmetics and premium currency)."
Can you upgrade to Premium Tier at any time?
What happens if you're a month into a season, still on the free tier, and you see another player's character run by with an awesome Premium armor set and you want to upgrade? No worries -- Blizzard says you can upgrade to Premium at any point:
"At any time during the Season, players can purchase a Premium Pass to unlock the ability to earn Premium rewards containing seasonal Cosmetics and Premium Currency."
How much does the Premium Season Pass cost?
The price for a Premium Season Pass is $10 USD, which spans the full 3 months of a season. After a season is over, the player can choose to buy a Premium Pass for the next season or participate in the Free Tier.

Are Gameplay Boosts available to everyone?
To squash pay-to-win concerns about Diablo 4, Blizzard made a conscious decision to put gameplay boosts (e.g., faster leveling) in the free tier, which is available to everyone:
"Because Season Boosts affect gameplay, they're free rewards for all players. We want to make clear that players can't unlock boosts faster through purchases -- there's no way to unlock more boosts by spending money."
Should players prioritize Season Journey goals?
According to Blizzard, players that prioritize Season Journey objectives will be more efficient in advancing through the Season Pass. It seems that Season Pass objectives are more general in nature than Season Journey ones, although some may be similar or the same.
"While any style of play can progress in the Season Pass, min-maxers can focus on the Season Journey objectives to advance faster."
Is Season Pass progression tracked across platforms?
Yes. If you're playing Diablo 4 on multiple platforms (e.g., PC and Xbox), your progression will be consistent across all of them.
