What are Murmuring Obols?
Murmuring Obols are a currency used for gambling for items at the Purveyor of Curiosities (similar to Bloodshards in Diablo 3). Players can see their Obols balance at the bottom of the Inventory screen:
Maximum Obols amount
The starting maximum number of Obols a player can carry is 500. This can be increased by collecting specific Altars of Lilith around Sanctuary. For example, in the Fractured Peaks, there's 4 Altars of Liliths that add 5 Obols capacity each, for a total of 20 more Obols.
Obols are untradable
Players should note that, unlike Gold, Obols can't be traded.
Buying Whispering Keys
In addition to using Obols to gamble for items (see our Purveyor of Curiosities guide), players can use them to purchase Whispering Keys (also from the Purveyor), which are the only way to unlock Silent Chests.
TOPAcquiring Obols
Local Events
Local Events are small storylines that players can chance upon while exploring Sanctuary and are the main source of Obols. They have 2 objective levels, with the more difficult one paying out more Obols. If neither objective is met, the player receives no rewards.
Obol Caches
Caches are rewards given via Bosses and Quests. They contain batches of a type of item, like Crafting Materials or Obols. While Obol Caches are less common than Local Events, the multiple clumps of Obols a player can get from them adds up quickly.
