What are Local Events?
As you're exploring Diablo 4's vast, open world, you'll occasionally encounter Local Events that have objectives and rewards [1]. Blizzard states that these small story segments will not only randomize in where they occur, but also what type you find:
Two objective levels
Local Events have basic and mastery obejective levels. The former is easier to complete, but yields fewer rewards; while the latter, usually timed, provides better rewards.
TOPCan random, open world players join in?
Yes. Because Local Events occur in the public, open world, you might see a few random players join your cause to complete the event's objectives. Partying up is encouraged, as there's a Local Event Ally Challenge.
Mini-map marking
Local Events are denoted on the mini-map with a red circle, drawing nearby players in.
TOPWhat Local Events exist?
In gameplay footage, the following Local Events have been seen:
Ancients' Obelisk
Inspect the Ancient Obelisk
- Basic objective: Stand on the pressure plates to satiate them: (0 / 4 plates)
- Mastery objective: Satiate the plates before the time runs out (2 minutes)
What are Local Event rewards?
After completing a Local Event, players receive:
- Experience
- Gold
- Loot
- Murmuring Obols
Murmuring Obols is a type of currency that can be exchanged at the Purveyor of Curiosities to gamble for items. Local Events (and also Dungeon Events and Live Events) are the only way to obtain Murmuring Obols, which adds a great incentive to participate.
