When did Diablo 4 Collector's Edition pre-orders begin?

Blizzard began preorders for the Diablo IV: Limited Collector's Box on December 15, 2022 on its Gear Store. Despite limited quantities, copies are still available.

How much does the D4 Collector's Box cost?

US residents

The Diablo IV Limited Collector's Box is $96.66 USD. Those in Alaska and Hawaii (i.e., non-US mainland) may face steep shipping costs, as some players reported ~$100 extra for shipping.

International residents

Players outside the US can place an order; however, they can expect exorbitant shipping costs. Residents of countries like Australia and Canada have seen shipping prices of $100-200 USD:

• Australian player #1: $290 USD total (shipping added $194)
• Canadian player #1: $170 USD total (shipping added $74)
• Canadian player #2: $181 USD total (shipping added $85)
• Canadian player #3: $208 USD total (shipping added $112)
• Canadian player #4: $217 USD total (shipping added $121)

To alleviate this, Blizzard is working on making copies available at retailers within these countries, like EB Games in Australia.

Does the Collector's Edition include the game?

In a first for the Diablo series, Blizzard has decided not to include the actual game [1] in the physical Collector's Edition (i.e., you must buy either the Standard, Deluxe, or Ultimate digital version to play the game). The box will only include collectibles. This may make the Collector's Box only appealing to the most hardcore Diablo fans.

The reason? Blizzard said it wanted to allow players freedom to "mix-and-match" which digital items they wanted (through the three editions) with the physical memorabilia of the Collector's Box.

What's in the Diablo 4 Limited Collector's Box?

Diablo 4 art book

A staple in past Diablo Collector's Editions, the art book has over 300 pages of impressive Diablo 4-related works by Blizzard's artists.

Candle of Creation

Despite some early confusion by fans, the Collector's Edition contains one candle with two sides as opposed to two separate candles. One side features Lilith, while the other shows her former lover (and now archrival), Inarius.

The candle runs off batteries, which are included, and isn't meant to be lit on fire.

Cloth map of Sanctuary

Our favorite item in the Collector's Box is a cloth map of Sanctuary. It has an old-world style and shows off the game's five regions.

Two matted fine art prints

In addition to the art book shown above, Blizzard is also including two fine art prints that are matted and 18.54" x 10.79" in size.

The first print features Lilith and Inarius side-by-side:

And the second shows a horde of demons in Hell, which we believe will be a playable zone; likely, the last one:

Pin of the Horadrim

Players will also receive a real metal pin in the symbol of the Horadrim, a brotherhood that contains the ranks of Deckard Cain and Lorath, the latter of which plays an important role in telling Diablo 4's story. The Horadrim will be featured heavily in two upcoming Diablo books:

• Diablo: Book of Lorath
• Tales from the Horadric Library

Occult mouse pad

Lastly, you'll find what Blizzard calls an "occult" mouse pad, complete with cryptic symbols that relate to Lilith.

What's on the Collector's Edition box?

Front of the box

The box's front features the gates of Hell, with a fiery glow emanating from behind them. Intricate carvings of demons adorn the sides of the gates. We believe this is the same scene used in Diablo 4's initial loading screen that also shows tips to the player.

Side of the box

Along the side of the box is the roman numeral "IV", in fiery-red color and part of Blizzard's logo set for Diablo 4.

Candle of Creation box

The electric Candle of Creation comes in a black box with the same occult design as the mouse pad. This box is inside the main box.

When does the Collector's Box ship?

Blizzard expects the box to be in players' hands on or before June 30, 2023. Note that this is weeks after the game's release date of June 6, 2023. This won't prevent players from playing the game on launch day because the actual game isn't included in the Collector's Edition -- just memorabilia.

How many copies of the physical box were produced?

The number of boxes for sale is unknown, as Blizzard vaguely says "a finite amount" were made. Some are still available as of this writing (12/18/22). The only time Blizzard has revealed the quantity of Collector's Edition boxes was with Diablo 2, in which it produced 70,000 copies.

When was the Collector's Edition leaked?

On April 1, 2022, while posting routine Public Test Realm patch notes for World of Warcraft [2], Blizzard inadvertently included an update for an achievement given to World of Warcraft players that own the Diablo 4 Collector's Edition:

A Collector's Edition for Diablo 4 always had a high probability of happening, but the above leak was the first ever official mention of it.
