How do Shrines work in Diablo 4?
Shrines, a staple feature in the Diablo series, have a few differences in Diablo 4:
- Duration: all Shrines last 30 seconds
- Faster movement: in addition to a Shrine's effects, players also gain 35% Movement Speed
- 1 active at a time: a player with an active Shrine effect overwrites it by touching another Shrine
- Player-specific: any player in a party wanting a Shrine's effects must individually click it

Cursed Shrine
Cursed Shrines appear as normal Shrines before they're clicked.
Once activiated, the player is notified that they've joined a Cursed Shrine Event and must slay 5 waves of monsters within 1 minute for the Mastery reward, which is a Greater Radiant Chest and access to the Shrine). If the player kills the monsters, but not within 1 minute, they receive a Radiant Chest and usage of the Shrine. Note that this Event, like others, can be passed by, if wanted.
TOPDefaced Shrine
Players will occasionally come across a shrine with a broken-off top, called a Defaced Shrine. The Shrine's top can be found somewhere nearby, and, when returned, gives the player access to a random Shrine.
