Healing Potions in Diablo 4

How does the Diablo 4 Healing Potion system work?

In Diablo 4, players carry a Healing Vial that stores a limited number of Healing Potion Charges. Players can upgrade the effectiveness of their Potions at the Alchemist.

Using a Healing Potion Charge

The default keybind for using a Potion Charge is 'Q.' Each of a player's available Health Potion Charges (players start with 4) restores 35% of Total Life over 3 seconds, with an additional amount of instant healing based on how upgraded the Potions are.

Depleted Healing Potion Charges

Charges don't replenish over time, and players can't reach into their Inventory for reserve ones. This forces players to ration Charges and be much more tactical when they use them, especially in long Boss fights.

Replenishing Healing Potion Charges

Fighting Elites and Bosses

Challenging enemies, like Elites, Bosses, and World Bosses, release Potion Charges after taking a certain amount of damage.

Bosses and World Bosses have special health bars, shown at the top of the screen, that display triangles, signifying the points at which Potion Charges are released. 3 Healing Potion Charges are released at each triangle, and also when the Boss dies. The triangles turn from red, downward ones to upward, gray ones when the enemy's Life drops below these points:

Opening Chests

Chests that appear in Dungeons and the Open World contain Potion Charges (and also Gold and loot). If there's a tough pack of monsters close to the Chest, a player can open the Chest before fighting the monsters to have the option to heal.

Healing Wells

Typically, before a player is about to enter a room with a Boss or multiple Elites, the game will provide the player with a Healing Well, which replenishes all of a player's Charges. Even if a player has 90 or 95% of their Life when they come across a Healing Well, it's always a good idea to fill up.

Healers

All Capitals (e.g., Kyovashad) and most Towns have Healer NPCs that, when clicked, restore all of a player's Charges. Like with Healing Wells above, it's always a good idea for players to fill up their Life globe before leaving town.

How do you get more Healing Potion Charges?

One of the biggest upgrades a player will feel is unlocking their 5th Potion Charge. This is done by accumulating 300 Renown Points in the Fractured Peaks Region (Renown Points are earned by exploring and completing content in a Region). This bonus is account-based, meaning it applies to all of a player's characters.
