Cursed undead from the sea
The Drowned monster family is a new addition to the Diablo series. Its members are undead creatures that have crawled onto the shores of Scosglen from the Frozen Sea to the north. Drowned monsters wear armor made of tattered rags, rope, and rusty metal. They're led by Merinth, also known as the Drowned Witch.

Synergistic attacks
The handful of different types of Drowned monsters are a tight-knit crew, who work together to outsmart and overwhelm players [1]:
"Each family member has a signature ability that synergizes with other members of the family, becoming stronger when they're fighting together."
Known Drowned spawn areas
Blizzard explicitly says that Drowned monsters only spawn on the shores of the Scosglen region:
"Drowned are watery entities found along the coasts of Scosglen. You can't find them anywhere else."
Drowned monster types
Like most other monster families, the Drowned family consists of a handful of different archetypes of monsters:
-
Drowned Wretch
Drowned Wretches are small and numerous. They lob water crystals at the player. Also, they're present in the boss fight against the Drowned Witch.

Drowned Juggernaut
The Drowned Juggernaut is the largest of the Drowned -- so large, that they wield the broken mast of a ship. They swing the mast at the player like a bat, and also pound it into the ground, stunning the player with water.

Drowned Melee monsters
The Drowned Family also has two melee monsters. No details have been released about them yet, but from artwork, we can see that one uses a barbed one-handed mace, while the other has a one-handed mace with hooks on the end. They also have what appear to be cultish symbols carved or tattooed into their flesh.
