Diablo 4 Minimap features

Compared to previous Diablo games, the Diablo 4 mini-map has a slew of quality-of-life features to help players get to their destination faster and easier.

Destination routing

Wouldn't it be cool if Diablo 4 had a Google Maps-like navigation system? Well, Blizzard implemented just that, allowing players to pin a destination (e.g., a far away Quest objective) and see the fastest path to it. Party members can also see pins, helping everyone reach the same destination. Note, however, that routing doesn't work inside Dungeons.

Recent footsteps

Players can see the path they took to their current location via a trail of dots on the minimap. This is useful when needing to backtrack for loot or landmarks.

No map overlay feature

Blizzard has confirmed there won't be a map overlay feature in Diablo 4, or at least not at launch. In previous Diablo games, like Diablo 2, players could have a semi-transparent map over the middle of their screen during gameplay, which saved them from looking up to the minimap in the right-hand corner. While convenient, Blizzard thinks a map overlay makes Diablo 4 less immersive. While in a Dungeon, if a player needs help navigating, they can press the 'Tab' key to bring up the (non-transparent) map overlay.
