Jeweler NPC in Diablo 4

Craft Gems

Diablo 4 has 7 Gem types (see our Top Diablo 4 Gem guide full guide on Gems), and, like past Diablo games, 3 Gems are needed to upgrade to the next Gem quality, which the Jeweler will do for a Gold fee.

Unsocket Gems

Because Gems are hard to come by, players can get the Jeweler to unsocket them for reuse in other items. The Jeweler's fee for unsocketing is listed below the socketed item's durability. It's proportional to the item's Item Power.

Add Sockets

Jewelers can also add sockets to items, although this is a costly procedure and should be reserved for longer-term-held items. Items in Open Beta cost about 20,000 Gold to add a socket to.

In addition to Gold, players have to provide a Scattered Prism to the Jeweler, which can only be acquired by defeating a World Boss.

Sockets per item type

Each type of equipment has a max number of sockets it can have, ranging from 1-2:

Slot Sockets
Helm 1
Chest 2
Legs 2
Amulet 1
Ring 1
One-Handed Weapon 1
Two-Handed Weapon 2
Bow 2

Upgrade Jewelry

Players can make their Amulets and Rings much more powerful by upgrading them at the Jeweler (similar to how the Blacksmith can upgrade Armor and Weapons). Each time a player upgrades a piece of Jewelry, the item gets +5 Item Power and all of its base and affix stats are improved. The Jeweler has a helpful preview item feature to see the effects of the upgrade before committing.

Item Levels

An item can be upgraded 3-4 times (i.e., Item Levels) based on its quality:

Quality Item Lvls
Rare 3
Legendary 4
Unique 4

Item upgrade cost

Because upgrading items adds so much power, it costs a lot of Gold (Item Level 4 can cost hundreds of thousands). Also, more (and rarer) Crafting Materials are required for each successive Item Level:

Item type Material needed
Jewelry Level 1 Iron Chunk
Jewelry Level 2 Iron Chunk, Silver Ore
Jewelry Level 3 Iron Chunk, Silver Ore, Veiled Crystal
Jewelry Level 4 Iron Chunk, Silver Ore, Veiled Crystal, Abstruse Sigil

Upgrade example: Legendary Ring
