How to get Mount in Diablo 4

What does the Donan's Favor Quest involve?

In the early game, when players click on the Stable Master, they're given a message saying that Mounts are unlocked upon completion of the Donan's Favor Priority Quest. What it doesn't explain is when a player is likely to reach this point.

Players that are consistently completing the Campaign Quests can expect to receive the Donan's Favor Quest around Level 30-35. This occurs at the beginning of Act IV, when the player is asked to meet Donan in the Cathedral of Light in Kyovashad.

After talking with Donan, players can then head to the southern part of Kyovashad to talk to Oskar, the Stable Master,

Oskar, appreciating the hero's good deeds around Sanctuary, offers one of his horses for free. The horse is named: Old Nell Steed, a sturdy horse with a brown coat.

Using the horse for the first time

Activiating the Mount

When a player wants to use their Mount, they can press the Z keybind. This is shown to the right of the player's Health globe in case the player forgets.

Controlling Mount speed

The Diablo 4 Mount's speed is based on how far away the clicked cursor is from the horse. Placing the cursor close to the horse and clicking makes the horse go slow, like a prancing motion. Moving the cursor far away (e.g., side of screen) and clicking makes it gallop.

Spurring the horse

Players can make the horse gain a temporary burst of speed (i.e., spurring) by pressing the spacebar keybind. This can be done 3 times before the spurrings run out (each one takes 12 seconds to regenerate). A player's remaining speed bursts are shown in the Mount UI as icons with a horseshoe and lightning bolt (see the UI image above).

Horse dismounts

When a player wants to dismount, they have 2 options:

  • Dismount ability: each Class has its own dismount ability, in which the player's character leaps off the horse and performs a special attack on nearby monsters. This is mapped to the 1 keybind by default.
  • Regular dismount: for getting down from the horse as normal (e.g., like in town), players can right-click. Note that there's a 10 second cooldown to get back up on the horse.

Abilities while on the horse

Other than the dismount ability, players can't attack while on the mount, but they can:

Horse damage

A Mount's damage amount is shown in a bar above the horseshoe icons. If the bar fills up (and turns a deep red color), the player is forced to dismount and wait for 30 seconds to get up on the horse again.
