What are Cinders?
Aberrant Cinders (or "Cinders" for short) are a currency acquired in Helltides, a 60 minute end-game activity that transforms one of the game's 5 Regions into a hellish landscape. They're used to open Helltide Chests, which offer the best loot in the game. Players can get them from:
- Monsters drops: tougher monsters, like Elites and Bosses, drop more Cinders
- Finishing Events: Events are by far the most efficient way to gain Cinders
- Opening objects: red, burning objects in the Helltide always drop a handful of Cinders
Unlike other currencies, like Gold and Seeds of Hatred, Cinders drop individually, not in clumps.
Cinder drop rates
When a Helltide begins, top players typically head straight to Events (as tracked by Helltides.com), clearing out any large mobs they find along the way. Cinder drop rates, per source, are below:
Source | Cinders |
---|---|
Damned Soul (Red) | 3-4 |
Event (Monsters & Chest) | 25-50 |
Fiend Rose | 3-4 |
Helltide Commander | 5-6 |
Random Monster | 1 |
Screaming Hell Vein | 3-4 |
Wretched Soul (Red) | 3-4 |
Losing Cinders when dying
When players die in a Helltide, they lose about half their Cinders, which could prevent them from having enough to open a Helltide Chest before time runs out.
TOPOpening Helltide Chests with Cinders
Cinders are only used within Helltides to open Helltide Chests (or "Tortured Gifts," as they're called in the game). One type of Helltide Chest, the Helltide Mystery Chest, which requires 175 Cinders to open, provides players with the best loot in the game. Most players save up their Cinders to open only these Chests, as opposed to the item slot specific ones.
