Diablo 4 addons not allowed by Blizzard
Addons are third-party software enhancements that improve some element of the game, oftentimes the UI (e.g., a damage per second calculator) or map (e.g., an overlay helping the player navigate). Blizzard has clearly stated that addons aren't allowed in Diablo 4 [1].
Addon risks
While some game developers welcome addons and plugins, others, like Blizzard, shy away from them for (valid) reasons of:
- Breaking game configuration files
- Malware risk for players
- Security risk for the company
- Unfair advantages to the players using them
Helpful Diablo 4 online utilities
Helltides.com
Although technically not an addon (and thus okay by Blizzard's standards), the site, Helltides.com, deserves mention because of its fan-favorite status and usefulness helping players plan their Helltide runs. The service provides:
- Helltide countdowns: the time remaining in the current Helltide or the time to the next one
- Helltide Region: shows the Region the Helltide has risen in
- Helltide Mystery Chests locations: refreshed (with crowdsourcing) to show the latest locations
- Event locations: Events are the fastest way to earn Cinders
In-game Diablo 4 quality-of-life features
Some addon-like features that Blizzard has added to Diablo 4 are:
Map navigation
On the minimap, players can pin a location and a Google Maps-like routing system will show the player the most efficient way to navigate to it.
Inventory tabs
Diablo 4's Inventory screen has convenient tabs to organize item types, like Consumables, Quests, and Legendary Aspects.
Inventory sorting
Also, Blizzard added an Inventory sorting feature that orders items by slot, Item Power, and rarity.
TOPPast Diablo addons
Maphack for Diablo 2
The most famous addon in the Diablo series was Maphack for Diablo 2, which allowed players to instantly see an entire area's map without having to explore it first. Blizzard banned it because it gave players using it an unfair advantage.
Pindle Bot for Diablo 2
Much more of a cheat than an addon, Pindle Bot is a scripted bot that repeatedly runs the Boss, Pindleskin, which is easier to access than other Bosses. Players can have the bot run thousands of times unsupervised, automatically looting the best Runes and items.
