Fifth class in Diablo 4

5th class confirmed: Necromancer

On June 12, 2022, Blizzard announced Diablo 4's fifth class [1]: the Necromancer, which, coincidentally, was the fan favorite to take the last class slot. Diablo 4's Necromancer has a class mechanic called the Book of the Dead that allows players to customize their army of undead minions. Also, the class has skills based around blood, bone, and Shadow magic.

Below, you can read the past clues that lead up to the fifth class's announcement.

Diablo 4's class selection screen shows the game's classes sitting around a campfire at night outside a small village. Blizzard also shows this scene on the official Diablo 4 site's Classes section [2]. Before, the four known classes (Barbarian, Druid, Rogue, and Sorcerer) were shown, but recently, Blizzard updated the scene to add a shadowy silhouette of the fifth, unannounced class between the Barbarian and Sorcerer:

5th class has gloves and cloak?

The shape of the mystery class's silhouette shows a figure that appears to be wearing a cloak and has large gloves on. Some have speculated that this fits the profile of a Paladin or Knight-type character.

Over 1,600 members of reddit's /r/Diablo community voted on which class they'd like to see as Diablo 4's fifth class [3] (using fixed options of: Amazon, Death Knight, Necromancer, Paladin, and Other):

• Necromancer

  Taking first place was the Necromancer, a primarily summoner class from Diablo 2, Diablo 3, and Diablo Immortal. Although Diablo 4's Druid can summon creatures (e.g., Ravens, Vine Creepers, and Wolves), it's more of a hybrid class, so the game doesn't have a pure summoner class (yet).

• Paladin

  The Paladin, a holy magic and shield class from Diablo 2, came second in voting. It's long been a fan favorite and, currently, the Paladin Hammerdin (Blessed Hammer) build is the most powerful in Diablo 2: Resurrected.

• Death Knight

  The Death Knight, a hybrid class relying on summoning, auras, and a shield, was first introduced in World of Warcraft. Diablo players are eager to see it brought to the Diablo universe. It received the third most votes.

• Amazon

  Receiving the fourth most votes was the Amazon, a ranged class from Diablo 2 that uses bows and javelins. This class choice may be unlikely since there seems to be large overlap with Diablo 4's Rogue class.

• Other class suggestions

  Players also suggested: Cleric, Monk, Priest, and Warlock.
