What's the campfire screen?

Diablo 4's class selection screen shows the game's five classes sitting around a campfire at night on the outskirts of a village. Clicking on a class brings it to the forefront, providing you with more information about the class to help you with your class selection.

What did the campfire scene look like before?

Blizzard has released a handful of earlier versions of the campfire screen at its Press Center [1] and the official Diablo 4 website. New iterations have added classes, refreshed the look of existing classes, and made slight alterations to the campfire setting.

Campfire screen for release date announcement - December 2022

The latest incarnation of the scene, from December 2022, dramatically changes the look of the Rogue and Sorcerer, and obscures the sides of the screen with tree branches

Campfire screen with Necromancer - June 2022

In June 2022, the Necromancer was inserted between the Barbarian and Sorcerer to reveal the game's fifth and final class. Other changes include:

• Rogue appear more ninja-like
• Barbarian changed to female
• Sorcerer given more ornamental garb
• Full moon made larger
• Less moonlight behind the characters

Fifth class silhouette campfire - mid-2021

Sometime in 2021, Blizzard teased Diablo 4's fifth, unknown class by releasing an iteration of the campfire scene showing a shadowy figure between the Barbarian and Sorcerer. Many players guessed that the mystery class was either a Paladin or Necromancer. Those that guessed the latter were correct.

Campfire screen with Rogue - February 2021

The Rogue was added in February 2021 after its class announcement. We can also see that the scene is more panned out (to fit the extra class) and new background items were added, like a:

• Full moon behind clouds
• Person hanging from a gallow
• Raven

What do the class description screens look like?

We suspect that when a class around the campfire is clicked, a class description screen is shown with a:

• Representative character model of the class
• Paragraph summarizing the class's abilities and strengths
• Short video of the class's gameplay
